The popularity of the BBC series Downton Abbey has sparked our interest in the Edwardian era, when King Edward VII reigned over the United Kingdom. This was a time of great disparity between the haves, and the have-nots. 

Wealthy aristocrats owned huge manor houses and reveled in luxury, leisure, and extravagant entertaining. The rich expected their every whim to be indulged, and all their daily needs to be fulfilled, by the less-fortunate souls who served as their domestic servants.

The Great Falls of Paterson

Cotton and silk for clothing; locomotives for travel; paper for books & writing letters; Lucky Lindy's plane engine. What do they have in common? They all came from the same place! 

In 1791, Paterson (America's first planned industrial city) was established in the area centered around the Great Falls of the Passaic River. From humble mills would rise industries that changed the face of the United States.

Looks like everyone is staying home to wrap presents, because we didn't get enough sign-ups for this event to have the cookie exchange! We'll have another opportunity to exchange cookies and recipes in February. We'll do a Valentine cookie exchange. Happy Holidays!
