Special thanks to our wonderful Friends of the Library for generously supporting our Youth Services Department and sponsoring so many of our children's programs. THANK YOU!

Family Digital Scavenger Hunt
Calling all junior detectives!
On Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 am, we are hosting our first-ever Family Digital Scavenger Hunt. Children ages 3 to 8 will work with their families to solve clues, find the items in the hunt, and snap pictures. Any phone or tablet will work fine for this (and we have iPads you can use, too). Everyone takes home prizes!
Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. We can't wait to see your detective skills in action!
Edible Art: Candy Land
Our presenter Ms. Marianne, who runs an Edible Art company, will be bringing us a special Candy Land program on Monday, December 1st at 6:30 pm.
Children ages 7 and up will make their own Candy Land boards -- including trails and characters! -- out of foam, marshmallows, Sour Patch Kids, and assorted candies. Ms. Marianne will provide all the materials and instruction ... you just bring your creativity!
Space is limited. Please sign up by clicking here or on the flyer below!
Thank you everyone for your warm welcome to our new yoga instructor, Michele Magnotta! We heard wonderful reviews from her first four sessions of Yoga Storytime.
Ms. Michele's next session of Yoga Storytime will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 10:00 am. Children ages 2 and up are welcome to come hear stories, stretch, and practice yoga poses. Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. Namaste!
Merry Stirring Mice Storytime and Sing-A-Long
Not many people know about the secret part of Santa's team. Local author Cynthia Dreeman Meyer shows us what really goes on the night before Christmas in her book, “Merry Stirring Mice,” a delightful turnaround on the claim “not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” The book reading will be accompanied by a fun sing-a-long with Miss Cynthia, who is also a preschool music and movement teacher.
Ages 2 and up -- and, of course, their families! -- are welcome at this program on Thursday evening, December 4th, at 6:30 pm. Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below for a fun family time!
Sensory and Movement Storytime for Kids with Special Needs
Our next session of Sensory and Movement Storytime for Kids with Special Needs (for children with physical, developmental, medical, emotional, and/or learning-based special needs) will be held on Saturday, December 6th at 10:00 am.
If your child needs some time to become acclimated to our setting, please feel free to come at 9:45 am.
This program precedes our Read to a Dog program at 11:00 am, in which certified therapy dogs come to the library. Two of our therapy dogs will be available around 10:40 am specifically for the Sensory and Movement Storytime, so as to accommodate children who may be more comfortable in a smaller group. All children are welcome to stay for the 11:00 am session.
Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. We can't wait to see you!
Read to a Dog!
We hope school is going well for everyone! We can't believe it's almost holiday time!
It is always the perfect time to practice reading with our therapy dogs. Meet Rusty, Zoe, Janie, and Turner (Clover and her sister Omega are on vacation this month) at Read to a Dog on Saturday, December 6th from 11:00 am to Noon. This program is open to all ages and abilities, both readers and pre-readers.
Reading aloud to non-judgmental listeners (like dogs!) boosts confidence and improves reading and recitation skills. Moreover, reading together helps to reinforce letter recognition and vocabulary, and it creates a stronger bond with books. It's also a lot of fun! Don't believe us? Check out these great photos from our November session.
Ready to sign up? Cool! Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. Woof!
Winter Wonderland Family Craft Night
We're turning the library into a Winter Wonderland (just a little bit early!) on Monday, December 8th, at 6:30 pm. Won't you join us for a fun family night of crafting?
For ages 6 and up, we'll have four awesome crafts -- 3-D paper snowflakes; elf hats to decorate; star ornaments; and sno-cones! -- in just one night. You'll be able to make and bring home lots of cool things to decorate you and your house for the holiday season ... plus, as always, we'll have lots of fun! This is a super activity for the whole family!
Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. Get ready for a winter-y good time!
After School Art: Nutcracker Painting
Grades 2-6, please join us for our final Art School Art session of 2014!
On Wednesday afternoon, December 10th, at 4:30 pm we will be designing and creating our own nutcracker paintings. We will learn about the history and traditions of nutcrackers in Germany and the United States, view some amazing examples, and then get to work on our original art. This lesson will help introduce us to the concept of symmetry ... and it will also be super fun!
