Fall Storytimes

Fall Storytimes end the week of October 27th (please wear your Halloween costumes this week!).

We will take a two-week break and start a new session of storytimes the week of November 17th. Registrations will begin in early November. Thank you!

Halloween Fitness Storytime

This month's Fitness Storytime will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 11:00 am. Ms. Melissa, our certified personal trainer, will be reading Halloween-themed stories to children ages 3 and up. After our books, we will get up and work out to some Halloween-themed music. So much fun!

Please, no costumes for this program. Just wear something comfy!

Registration is open now. Please sign up by clicking here or on the flyer below!

Sensory and Movement Storytime

Our next session of Sensory and Movement Storytime for Kids with Special Needs (for children with physical, developmental, medical, emotional, and/or learning-based special needs) will be held on Saturday, November 1st at 10:00 am.

If your child needs some time to become acclimated to our setting, please feel free to come at 9:45 am.

This program precedes our Read to a Dog program at 11:00 am, in which certified therapy dogs come to the library. Two of our therapy dogs will be available around 10:40 am specifically for the Sensory and Movement Storytime, so as to accommodate children who may be more comfortable in a smaller group. All children are welcome to stay for the 11:00 am session.

Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. We can't wait to see you!

Read to a Dog!

We hope school is going well for everyone! Can you believe it's almost November? Wow!

Fall is the perfect time to practice reading with our therapy dogs. Meet Clover, Rusty, Zoe, Turner, and our new dog, Kaelin (Janie's German Shepherd Dog sister!), at Read to a Dog on Saturday, November 1st from 11:00 am to Noon. This program is open to all ages and abilities, both readers and pre-readers.

Reading aloud to non-judgmental listeners (like dogs!) boosts confidence and improves reading and recitation skills. Moreover, reading together helps to reinforce letter recognition and vocabulary, and it creates a stronger bond with books. It's also a lot of fun! Don't believe us? Check out these great photos from our October session.

Ready to sign up? Cool! Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. Woof!

Yoga Storytime

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome to our new yoga instructor, Michele Magnotta! We heard wonderful reviews from her first three sessions of Yoga Storytime.

Ms. Michele's next session of Yoga Storytime will be held on Thursday, November 6th at 10:00 amChildren ages 2 and up are welcome to come hear stories, stretch, and practice yoga poses. Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. Namaste!

Silly Science!

We're backkk!

Kids ages 8 and up, please join us on Thursday, November 6th at 3:00 pm for Silly Science. We will do an hour's worth of all new, super fun experiments. Let's mix some things together and see what happens! (And we will learn, too!)

Plus, weather permitting, we won't go home until at least one bottle of soda gets properly blown up outside!

Space is limited, so please sign up by clicking here or on the flyer below.

American Girl Craft Night

Have you read the books or seen the movie about American Girl's Felicity? (It's okay if you haven't!) Felicity was modeled on a girl who lived in Virginia during the time of the American Revolution, which took place way back in 1776.

Our friend Ms. Janine is coming to the library on Thursday, November 6th at 6:45 pm to present an American Girl Craft Night. Ms. Janine will talk a little about Felicity's time period and then show us how to make our own tussy wussy, which is a kind of silk flower bouquet that was popular in colonial times. Learning how and why crafts were made long ago helps us understand what it was like to grow up as girls like Felicity did. Plus, it's really fun!

Ready to sign up? Cool! Please click here or on the flyer below. See you soon!

Games!

We love games! On Friday, November 7th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, we will be bringing out our giant playing cards, our Wimpy Kid "Don't Scramble the Egg!" game, and our bingo machine for a fun hour of games and prizes. Ages 8 and up, please join us for a good time! Register by clicking here or on the flyer below. See you soon!

Science Storytime

Do you like stories about dinosaurs and space? If so and you are between the ages 3 and 6, please join us for a Science Storytime on Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 am. We'll read stories that explore all sorts of science and get crafty with a science-themed craft!

Please register by clicking here or on the flyer. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Queen Elsa!

Guess who is coming to the Denville Library? QUEEN ELSA!

For children ages 2 and up, the one and only Elsa, the Snow Queen from Frozen, will be here in person on Monday, November 10th at 10:00 am. Elsa will lead us in stories, sing-alongs, dancing, and more!

Since we have limited space, you must register by clicking here or on the flyer below. We can't wait to share Queen Elsa with you!

Wiggles & Giggles: Jitterbug

Do you like to wiggle and giggle? Dance and sing? Maybe you like to jitter like a jitterbug, too! For ages 2 and up, we'll have critter stories, music, and dance on Wednesday, November 12th at 10:30 am. Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below.

Bring your wiggles, giggles, and jitterbug moves! See you soon!

After School Art: Native American Batik Painting

We had so much fun at our four sessions of After School Art in October. Our artists are so amazingly talented! (Don't believe us? You can check out photos here!)

We are excited to announce that we have another session of After School Art for students in grades 2 through 6 on Wednesday, November 12th at 4:30 pm. We will be learning the folk story "How the Raven Stole the Sun" and then creating our own Native American batik paintings. This is a fun opportunity to be creative!

Please register by clicking here or on the flyer below. We can't wait to see your art!

Circle Time

Looking for something to keep the little ones engaged and entertained? Look no further! Teacher Lara Rouillard will join us on Thursday, November 13th at 10:30 am for Circle Time. Ms. Lara will lead children ages 2 and up in sign language, songs, stories, and movement.

Studies show that sign language helps young children improve their communication skills, increase their cognitive abilities, and develop closer bonds with the people with whom they sign. Plus, it's fun! (Click here to learn more!) Sound good? Then please sign up by clicking here or on the flyer below. See you soon!

Robot Sumo

Robodyssey is back!

Instructor David Peins returns on Saturday, November 15th from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm for Robot Sumo. In this program, children in grades 4 through 8 will learn more ways to program robots using Microsoft Visual Basic programming language. These projects involve math, engineering, and the strategic placement of sensors for robot navigation.

If you were here in the summer, you remember how much fun our Robodyssey program was ... especially the robot competition. This time, our robots will fight sumo style! Woot!

Space is limited, so please register by clicking here or on the flyer below.
