Understanding Islam

On Tuesday February 7th at 7:00 pm Dr. Christopher S. Taylorof Drew University will present his lecture Understanding Islam at the Denville Public Library.

With over 1.25 billion followers worldwide, Islam is today the world’s second largest and fastest growing religion. Nevertheless, many Americans still feel that they know very little, and understand even less, about Islam.  This broad introduction will outline the major tenants of Islamic faith, discuss the ritual practices of Islam, explore aspects of Islamic spirituality, and explain the rich diversity defining this great religious tradition.

Professor Taylor is Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies at Drew University in Madison, N.J.  He is also the Director of the Drew University Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict.  A specialist in Islamic Studies, Dr. Taylor earned his B.A. in History from the Johns Hopkins University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton.
